Scan a business card with NFC, here’s how!

Scanning a business card has never been easier thanks to NFC technology on most smartphones. With just a tap, you can effortlessly transfer all relevant contact details to a phone. In this article, we’ll guide you step by step through the process of scanning a business card with NFC.

Scanning business cards with an iPhone

When you want someone to scan your business card with an iPhone, it’s helpful to know how the process works. With the NFC functionality on iPhones, exchanging contact information is a breeze. Here are the steps they can follow to scan your business card with their iPhone:

  1. Ask the person to hold the business card close to the back of their iPhone, where the NFC antenna is located — usually near the top of the phone, close to the camera.
  2. Make sure the screen is on. When the screen is black, the NFC function won’t work. The phone doesn’t need to be unlocked.
  3. When the iPhone detects the business card, a notification will appear on the screen. They can tap the notification to open the digital business card.

Older iPhone models (7, 8, and X)

If someone is using an older iPhone model, such as the iPhone 7, 8, or X, scanning may be a bit more difficult. For tips, see our article ‘Enable NFC on iPhone’. Fortunately, the NFC business card also includes a QR code. They can simply scan the QR code to avoid any hassle.

Scanning business cards with an Android device

When someone scans your business card using an Android device, they can easily access your contact details with their smartphone. Android is an operating system used by various phone brands. Some well-known brands that use Android include Samsung, Google Pixel, OnePlus, Huawei, Xiaomi, Sony, LG, Motorola, Nokia, and Oppo. These are just a few examples, as Android is used by many different phone manufacturers.

Here are a few tips for scanning your business card with an Android phone:

  1. Make sure their Android device has NFC functionality enabled. This can be done by going to Settings and searching for “NFC” or “Near Field Communication.” Turn on the NFC option if it isn’t already enabled.
  2. Ask the person to hold the business card close to the back of their Android device, where the NFC antenna is usually located. Depending on the model, this may be near the top or in the middle of the device.
  3. When their Android device detects the business card, a notification will appear on the screen. They can tap the notification to open the digital business card.
